JAMES IADEMARCO

James Iademarco is President of Strategic Avalanche, a U.S. based consulting firm delivering powerful ideas with impact for both small and large global companies. Focused primarily in agriculture, animal and human nutrition and renewable materials his firm strengthens critical fundamentals for portfolio assessments, joint collaborations, and differentiated business models to achieve top-line growth and long-term sustainable profits.

James has over 25 years of international commercial and investment experience across diverse industries, and has worked for both Fortune 500 and small cutting edge Biotech companies. This offers clients unique insights as he has sat on both sides of the table and managed through multiple corporate cultures. Prior to founding Strategic Avalanche, he lived in the Netherlands and led DSM’s Biobased Chemical and Materials team. A global innovation group chartered to build a renewable platform of chemicals with improved cost and sustainability at its foundation. He was overseeing the team responsible for forming Reverdia ™, DSM’s joint venture with French partner Roquette Frères, which is now a front-runner in renewable succinic acid. James served on the board and in late 2012, Reverdia successfully scaled succinic acid to 10,000 tons of fermentation capacity.

After spending 16 years at Monsanto in sales, marketing, and business management (full P&L responsibilities) across the agricultural and chemical divisions, he entered the biotechnology space when he joined Diversa in 2001. At Diversa (later becoming Verenium), he led business development activities for strategic enzyme products that today generate increasing revenue and represent key growth markets for DSM and BASF who have acquired these assets. Later in 2005 he was asked by Bayer CropScience to relocate to Research Triangle Park, NC and to build a biomaterial portfolio as one of three new business venture platforms. The three platforms (Biomaterials, Nutrition, and Pharmaceuticals) were based on Bayer’s proprietary in-planta genetics. For the biomaterial platform, a balanced portfolio of medium and long-term innovation projects were advanced in starch, edible oils, and proteins across R&D sites in Belgium, France, and Germany.

Mr Iademarco is a former seminar leader for the American Management Association and has taught courses on both product innovation and pricing strategy for diverse industries. Past clients came from the beverage, chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and insurance sectors. He holds an MBA from Columbia University and an undergraduate degree in Biomedical and Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. His team resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.
